PEORIA (25News Now) – High schoolers from across the region got a firsthand look at what Illinois Central College has to offer with a hands-on showcase.

More than 400 high schoolers had the chance to learn about careers in high demand in high-tech agriculture, diesel-powered equipment, and horticulture.

“I want to go, I want to see everything, I want to see my opportunities, I want to see what I can sign up for. It’s just really excited…like, I’m really excited.” said Aneya Whitt, a Midwest Central high school student.

“I think it’s really really critical as we shape student’s opinions about possible careers a lot of students don’t know that agriculture is one of our largest employers in the country and they’re maybe not exposed to careers in all three of the fields and know that there is unlimited opportunities for students to get high paying, high demand, high wage jobs in those areas.” said Grant Grebner, a professor of agriculture, Illinois Central College.

Local businesses were there too, at ICC’s East Peoria campus to talk about job opportunities and offer hands-on demonstrations.

“The industry partners that we have with the career showcase tell us they need employees, they want employees, they want properly trained employees, and that’s our job as a college to make sure that we’re meeting the needs of our industry partners and exposing students to those potential careers at a very young age,” Grebner said.
