Northeast Community College to Host Cover Crop Field Day
NORFOLK, NE – Northeast Community College, in conjunction with the Nebraska Corn Growers Association, will host an informational event on the benefits of cover cropping next month.
Cover Crop Field Day will be held Wednesday, November 8, from 9-10 a.m. in the field east of Northeast’s Utility Line Building and west of the Chuck M. Pohlman Agriculture Complex. Producers, members of the public and Northeast students are invited to attend.
Participants will learn about the cover crop research being conducted at the College farm. The field day will provide information on the results and benefits of cover cropping as well as grazing or haying cover crops. A question-and-answer session will also be held.
Jacob Ness, western Iowa field manager for the Soil Health Partnership, will be the featured speaker. A certified crop advisor, Ness has been one of the first CCAs to complete both the 4R Nutrient Management Specialty and Sustainability Specialty certifications. He has a strong agronomic background, most recently working as a certified crop specialist and nutrient management specialist at AgVantage FS in southeast Iowa. He has also worked in agronomy and precision agriculture for Cargill and Monsanto.
Ness is a graduate of South Dakota State University, majoring in plant science with an emphasis in soil science and geographic information science.
